Jack-up and transportation of a converter transformer

ALE has performed the jack-up and transportation of a converter transformer, weighing 366t, from Sellindge, near Ashford, to the Port of Dover.

Services Required

ALE jacked-up the transformer with climbing jacks and positioned the SPMTs underneath the transformer.

ALE utilised 20 axle lines of SPMT in a 4 file 10 configuration to transport the transformer across site. It was then positioned onto stools and transhipped onto the AL34 girder frame.

ALE used the AL34 girder frame with 24 axle lines of conventional trailers with two Trojan trucks and a Unipower truck to transport the transformer. It took seven hours to transport the transformer from Sellindge to the Port of Dover.

Once at the Port of Dover, it was offloaded from the trailer by the ship’s cranes.
