AAL Shipping, the Singapore-based multipurpose and project cargo carrier, has successfully delivered heavy lift heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) components for Keppel Infrastructure’s groundbreaking 600 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant on Jurong Island. This new plant, set to be the first hydrogen-ready facility in Singapore, marks a significant milestone in the country’s green energy development.

This shipment, consisting of more than 7,000 cubic meters of HRSG components, underscores the national importance of the project. AAL transported 15 components from Masan, South Korea, each weighing over 300 tonnes, in a single voyage. This heavy lift operation highlights AAL’s capabilities and commitment to supporting crucial infrastructure projects in its home market.

Located in the Sakra sector of Jurong Island, the Keppel Sakra Cogeneration Plant (KSC Plant) is a beacon of green energy innovation. Expected to offset up to 220,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, the plant will initially use natural gas, with the capability to incorporate up to 30% hydrogen. Eventually, it will transition to running entirely on hydrogen, positioning Singapore as a leader in green energy technology. The plant is slated to commence commercial operations in the first half of 2026.

Yuko Kimura, Chief Representative of AAL Shipping Japan, who oversaw the shipment, expressed pride in AAL’s involvement: “As a Singapore-headquartered company, we are delighted to be part of this pivotal local project that aligns with the country’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The energy sector in Singapore contributes nearly 40% of the nation’s carbon emissions, so projects like this are crucial for decarbonizing electricity generation.”
AAL’s global headquarters in Singapore plays a vital role in the company’s operations, housing key departments including management, engineering, operations, and chartering teams. These teams are essential for coordinating AAL’s extensive global shipping activities.
To ensure comprehensive service across key trade routes in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Oceania, AAL has been actively recruiting talented professionals over the past five years. This global recruitment drive complements the efforts of AAL’s regional hub offices, which are also bringing in young talent to foster the next generation of multipurpose shipping experts.

Christophe Grammare, Managing Director at AAL Shipping, emphasized the company’s focus on talent development: “We recognize the importance of nurturing talent, and AAL has been investing in recruiting and training young graduates across key offices where maritime studies are prominent, including Singapore, Houston, and Hamburg. With increased activities in the Middle East and India, we’ve strengthened our Dubai hub with a highly experienced chartering broker to manage the growing volume of enquiries and bookings.”
AAL Shipping’s successful delivery of HRSG components for Singapore’s first hydrogen-ready power plant is a testament to the company’s logistical prowess and commitment to supporting green energy initiatives. This project not only underscores Singapore’s dedication to sustainable development but also highlights AAL’s role as a key player in the global shipping and logistics industry.
