Africa Global Logistics Secures Management Contract for São Tomé Port

Africa Global Logistics (AGL), a leading logistics operator in Africa, proudly announces the signing of a management contract for the São Tomé Port on December 20, 2023, paving the way for new economic prospects in the country. The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of Adelino Fernandes Rosa Cardoso, Minister of Infrastructure, Natural Resources, and Environment of São Tomé and Príncipe, and Hamilton Afonso Fernandes de Sousa, Director-General of the port authority, ENAPORT.

AGL emerged as the selected entity following a comprehensive consultation process to resume operations at the São Tomé Port container terminal. This partnership between AGL and the São Tomé government aims to enhance the port’s efficiency and productivity through the implementation of modern technological solutions and management practices.

Pierre Avesque, Director of Development at AGL, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are honored to have been chosen as partners to operate this port. The contract signing reaffirms our commitment to strengthen our service offerings in Africa, providing an integrated and quality service aligned with the expectations of the local population. We are confident that our expertise will significantly improve the productivity of the São Tomé and Príncipe Port, supporting the government’s efforts for the people of São Tomé.”

AGL, in collaboration with the Mediterranean Shipping Company, will oversee cargo maintenance operations and modernize terminal operations to foster local economic growth. With a quay length of nearly 300 meters and a depth of 5 meters in Ana Chaves Bay, the São Tomé Terminal serves over 250,000 people and boasts a storage area of 32,000 square meters and three warehouses.

Olivier De Noray, General Director of Ports and Terminals at Africa Global Logistics, highlighted the strategic significance of São Tomé Port as a gateway to Central Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. He explained, “Thanks to this management contract, Africa Global Logistics will work closely with local partners to provide tailored logistical solutions, promoting the country’s lasting socio-economic development.”

Minister Adelino Fernandes Rosa Cardoso affirmed the belief that AGL will be a primary strategic partner to enhance the port’s efficiency and competitiveness. Together, they aim to address operational challenges and offer services that will benefit the economy and local populations.

This contract, facilitated with the support of the international firm Lechëne Iniguez & Partners (LI&P), solidifies Africa Global Logistics’ position as a key player in port management across Africa.
