Anemoi Partners with Hundong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for Innovative Rotor Sail Designs on LNG Carriers

Anemoi Marine Technologies, a pioneer in wind propulsion technology, has forged a significant Joint Design Cooperation Agreement with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group. This deal aims to revolutionize the maritime industry by integrating Rotor Sails into two LNG carrier newbuildings.

The agreement, formalized on October 26, saw the collaboration between Nick Contopoulos, Anemoi’s Chief Operating Officer, and Wang Jiaying, Director of Research and Design Department at Hudong-Zhonghua. This partnership marks a crucial quest for sustainable shipping solutions.

Anemoi’s role in this venture extends beyond the surface. The company will meticulously evaluate the feasibility and intricacies of Rotor Sail implementation on LNG carriers. This includes the development of precise specification requirements and designs that will serve as blueprints for future installation projects, aligning with both current and forthcoming environmental standards.

Moreover, this joint endeavor holds the promise of instilling confidence in Rotor Sail technology among gas carrier proprietors. It is anticipated to facilitate the seamless introduction of a new era of LNG carriers, ones that not only exemplify efficiency but also embody environmental consciousness.

Nick Contopoulos expressed his enthusiasm about this strategic partnership, stating, “We are pleased to be working closely with Hundong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group to develop practical designs and specifications for Rotor Sails onboard LNG carriers.” He emphasized the urgent need for practical, easily deployable technologies to enhance vessel energy efficiency, especially in light of tightening emissions regulations and environmental protection imperatives.

Rotor Sails have emerged as a game-changer for contemporary LNG carriers, owing to their compatibility with the vessels’ ample deck space and minimal interference with cargo operations. Anemoi’s Rotor Sails have witnessed a surge in adoption as ship owners seek substantial fuel and emission reductions by harnessing the power of renewable wind energy during voyages.

In May, Anemoi had announced its ambitious goal of achieving a production capacity to install up to 50 Rotor Sails annually by the close of 2023, responding to the escalating demand for this groundbreaking technology.
