Since the 1980s, Blue Water Shipping has been a fixture in Greenland, establishing itself as the largest transport and logistics provider with five offices across the country. Now, the company is set for further growth with a significant investment in a larger facility in Nuuk.
Blue Water has acquired the former bottling plant of Nuuk Imeq for over DKK 100 million. This substantial investment marks one of the company’s largest and signifies a major milestone, opening new avenues for enhanced logistics and storage capabilities in Nuuk.
“The expansion here in Nuuk will support our ambition to deliver reliable solutions from, to, and within Greenland. The extra space makes it possible to receive larger volumes of goods, process and deliver them faster, and store more goods on behalf of our customers,” said Lars Vajse, Country Manager for Blue Water Greenland.
The purchase of the Nuuk Imeq building, a landmark with deep community ties, underscores Blue Water’s ongoing commitment to Greenland. The company plans to honor the building’s historical significance while repurposing it for modern logistics needs.
“This investment demonstrates Blue Water’s belief in the region’s potential and willingness to support Greenlandic growth and development. We are prepared for the new infrastructure that will soon be a reality in Greenland. Last year, we completed a new office and terminal in Ilulissat, and we hope to take similar steps in other towns we serve in Greenland,” stated Ole Ulriksen, VP North Atlantic, Blue Water.
With this acquisition, Blue Water aims to enhance its transport services and optimize supply chains throughout the North Atlantic. This follows last year’s opening of a new North Atlantic terminal at the Port of Aarhus, positioning both ends of the transport network between Denmark and Greenland to handle increasing cargo volumes.
“With this new facility, we can offer improved warehouse facilities and modern office space that will strengthen our services and cooperation with both existing and new customers. We have invested in the latest technology and infrastructure to ensure that our services are efficient, safe, and reliable. We look forward to working closely with old and new customers and partners in our new home,” concluded Lars Vajse.
Blue Water is set to take over the new facilities on October 1st, after which a major refurbishment and rebuilding will commence to tailor the premises to their new purpose.
