The sixth vessel in a series ordered by Chipolbrok, the Polish-Chinese shipping company, set sail. Named Boym, after the Polish missionary Michał Piotr Boym, this vessel is a significant addition to Chipolbrok’s fleet, known for its sizable 62,000-ton multipurpose ships. Boym joins as the thirty-third vessel in Chipolbrok’s collection, with its christening held at a Chinese shipyard.
Since 2021, Chipolbrok has received five other vessels in this series: Taixing, Herbert, Pilecki, Yongxing, and Yu An. Boym, like its predecessors, measures 199.9 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 19.3 meters in depth, with a draft of 13.5 meters when fully loaded. The ship is equipped with four cranes, capable of tandem lifts up to 300 tons, allowing it to transport various heavy equipment and cargo. Additionally, its five large holds, outfitted with movable tween decks, offer flexibility for carrying oversized items. The flat, smooth surfaces of the hatch covers, equivalent to 12 standard basketball courts, are particularly well-suited for transporting long wind farm components.
Kalina Klejbor, a long-time Chipolbrok employee in Gdynia and Shanghai and the current financial director at the company’s headquarters, was honored as the ship’s godmother.
The introduction of m/v Boym to Chipolbrok’s fleet represents a pivotal step for the company, enhancing its operations across major maritime routes between Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. The new vessel, with its modern technological features and increased tonnage, aims to improve and expand the services offered by Chipolbrok.
In its maiden voyage, Boym, under the command of Captain Robert Bartosiak, will transport components for six wind towers and transformers from China to Australia. This journey underscores Chipolbrok’s continued commitment to playing a vital role in global maritime transport, particularly in sectors like renewable energy.
Michał Piotr Boym, after whom the ship is named, was a seventeenth-century Jesuit missionary, scientist, and diplomat, often referred to as the Polish Marco Polo. He played a crucial role in fostering understanding between Eastern and Western civilizations.
Founded in 1951, Chipolbrok, the Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company, was established to facilitate maritime connections between Chinese and Polish ports. The company is equally owned by Poland and China, represented by their respective transport ministries. As the oldest Chinese deep-sea shipping company and the first with foreign capital in the People’s Republic of China, Chipolbrok has its headquarters in Shanghai and an office in Gdynia.
