CMA CGM Air Cargo has officially launched a new direct airfreight route, connecting Chicago and Hong Kong via Seoul. This strategic move is a significant step in expanding the company’s global reach, particularly in the competitive transpacific market. The newly added service is made possible by the recent acquisition of a third Boeing B777-200F, bolstering the company’s fleet and allowing for increased frequency of flights between Asia and North America.
The introduction of this new route is aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency and reliability for customers operating between these critical economic regions. With demand for air cargo services continuing to grow, especially for time-sensitive shipments, the move comes at an opportune time for CMA CGM. By increasing its service frequency to seven flights per week, the company is positioning itself as a key player in the transpacific airfreight corridor.
Damien Mazaudier, CEO of CMA CGM Air Cargo, emphasized the significance of the new service in meeting the needs of their growing customer base. “This opening comes with the delivery of a third B777 Freighter that will allow us to serve our customers on new routes across the Pacific. This new asset also plays a key role in contributing to greater sustainability in airfreight, in line with the CMA CGM Group’s ambitions,” said Mazaudier.

The decision to link Chicago and Hong Kong via Seoul reflects a growing trend in the industry towards developing more versatile and comprehensive air cargo networks. As global trade continues to face disruptions and uncertainties, having multiple touchpoints and transit hubs ensures better resilience and flexibility for clients. For CMA CGM Air Cargo, this not only strengthens its footprint in Asia and North America but also showcases the company’s commitment to providing faster, more sustainable logistics solutions.
This latest development underscores CMA CGM’s ambition to further integrate air cargo into its broader logistics offering, blending sea, air, and land transport solutions for end-to-end delivery options. With more aircraft expected to join the fleet in the near future, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on rising airfreight demands and deliver comprehensive service packages to customers worldwide.
