Collett Transport Triumphs in Seamless Delivery of Tan House Footbridge

In collaboration with SH Structures, Collett Transport has again demonstrated its prowess in heavy transport solutions by successfully delivering two expansive bridge sections for the Tan House footbridge project. Measuring an impressive 26 and 27 meters in length, and 4 meters in width each, the seamless delivery marks a significant milestone in the project’s completion.

The transportation of these critical bridge sections unfolded flawlessly, with Collett’s in-house pilot vehicle fleet skillfully escorting the convoy along the entire route. The journey kicked off at SH Structures’ facility in Sherburn-in-Elmet, where both wide loads were meticulously loaded onto 3-axle triple extendable trailers equipped with rear steer capabilities. The next stop was Jack Tighes’ industrial coating facility in Doncaster, setting the stage for the second leg of the journey.

Prior to embarking on the second leg, Collett conducted thorough site visits to strategize the route, identifying potential obstacles such as traffic lights and road signs that required removal. Once reloaded at Jack Tighes, Collett commenced the second leg, navigating through the challenging Wokingham town centre. Coordinating with Balfour Beatty and Wokingham Borough Council, Collett ensured a controlled road closure during daylight hours, ensuring both safety and efficiency in the transportation process.

In addition to delivering the two expansive bridge sections, Collett also transported supplementary components, including bridge support columns and bridge step units. This meticulous attention to detail and commitment to adherence with site construction schedules further solidify Collett’s reputation as a reliable heavy transport solutions provider.

Andrew Kind, Sales & Estimating Manager from SH Structures, lauded Collett’s meticulous planning, saying, “Collett & Son worked closely with SH Structures as part of their supply chain to plan the delivery of the two parts of the bridge from our factory to the painters, plus to site. Their meticulous eye for detail started at the swept path analysis, movement orders and the coordination with our client and Network Rail. The deliveries arrived to site on time to enable the lifting of the structure onto the rail-mounted bogies to work within the time constraints of the rail possession.”

This accomplishment underscores Collett’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional heavy transport solutions while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and seamless collaboration with stakeholders.
