Dealfeng and Haiyue Join Forces: Unveiling the Future of Maritime Sustainability

In a move towards sustainable maritime practices, Dealfeng New Energy Technology and Haiyue have recently partnered to construct a 5,000-ton class product oil tanker equipped with the innovative Dealfeng Rotor Sail. The vessel, conceived in October 2022, has now come to life with the successful installation of a 4m (diameter) x 16m (height) rotor sail on November 20, 2023. It is set to embark on its maiden voyage in early 2024.

Cutting-Edge Technology Takes Sail

The Dealfeng Rotor Sail, crafted from lightweight and robust composite material, is accompanied by a fully automated Dealfeng control system. This technology generates forward thrust by capitalizing on the pressure difference around the rotating rotor as the vessel sails. Anticipated to deliver an impressive 8% reduction in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, this innovation paves the way for substantial progress in China’s fleet towards national decarbonization goals.

Fuel Efficiency Redefined

With the Dealfeng Rotor Sail, the vessel’s main engine can operate at lower power and energy consumption levels when favorable wind conditions prevail. This not only results in significant fuel savings but also ensures the vessel maintains its speed and travel time. The implications extend beyond immediate economic benefits, offering a tangible contribution to the broader objectives of sustainable maritime operations.

Retrofits Point to the Future

moveing towards a greener future, Dealfeng has inked a retrofitting contract with Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC). This collaboration aims to install two sets of 18m x 4m Dealfeng rotor sails on a 25,000 Deadweight Tonnage (DWT) deck carrier classified in China Classification Society (CCS). As the general contractor for this ambitious retrofitting project, Dealfeng envisions achieving a remarkable 10% reduction in fuel consumption. The vessel is slated for delivery on December 20, 2023.

Looking ahead, Dealfeng is committed to advancing both energy-saving technology and the reduction of GHG emissions. The company’s efforts align with the energy-saving and emission-reducing policies of various international bodies, including the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), and European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). By doing so, Dealfeng aims to propel the maritime industry towards early realization of carbon peaking and neutrality, fostering green and sustainable development.
