Skandi Inventor set for North Australia work

DOF Group ASA has secured a large subsea construction and pre-commissioning support contract in the APAC region, adding further work for the vessel Skandi Inventor in North Australian waters.

The offshore campaign is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and is expected to run for between 160 and 250 days.

DOF defines a large contract as one valued between USD 50 million and USD 100 million.

Scope includes engineering and logistics support

The contract covers subsea construction and pre-commissioning support services. DOF will also provide in-house project management and engineering, along with procurement and logistics support.

That makes the award more than a vessel deployment. It is a full project delivery package, with offshore execution backed by planning, technical support and supply chain coordination.

For project cargo and offshore logistics professionals, that distinction matters. A subsea campaign of this length depends on more than offshore capability alone. It also relies on timely procurement, marine coordination, equipment readiness and the ability to keep complex work moving across long distances.

Backlog strengthens in APAC

The award follows the arrival of Skandi Inventor in the APAC region in early 2026. According to DOF, the vessel now has firm backlog in the region towards the end of 2027.

Mons Aase, CEO of DOF Group ASA, said he was pleased to see continued demand for Skandi Inventor and DOF’s subsea competence following the vessel’s move into the region.

“I am very pleased to see that Skandi Inventor, combined with DOF’s competence, continues to be in high demand following the vessel’s arrival in the APAC region in early 2026,” Aase said.

“The vessel now has a firm backlog in the region towards the end of 2027, and we look forward to continuing to deliver safe, efficient and world class subsea and marine services.”

North Australian waters remain active

The planned work in North Australian waters reflects continued offshore activity in a region where energy, subsea construction and marine support projects often require long lead times and specialist vessels.

For operators and contractors, vessel availability can be a deciding factor. When a capable subsea vessel is already positioned in the region and backed by project management and engineering teams, it can reduce mobilisation complexity and improve schedule certainty.

It is a little like having the right tool already on the workbench before the job begins. The value is not only in the tool itself, but in the time saved and the risk avoided.

Contract adds visibility into 2027

For DOF, the award adds revenue visibility and reinforces utilisation for Skandi Inventor in APAC. The campaign duration of up to 250 days also gives the company a sizeable operating window in a market where offshore assets are closely watched.

The financial value range, between USD 50 million and USD 100 million, puts the contract in a meaningful category for offshore support and subsea services.

In practical terms, the award strengthens DOF’s regional position while giving Skandi Inventor a clearer work profile beyond its initial APAC deployment.
