Dubai Leads Arab World in 2024 Leading Maritime Cities Report

Dubai has reaffirmed its status as a premier international maritime hub by clinching the top spot in the Arab world in the 2024 Leading Maritime Cities (LMC) report. The city has surged to 11th place globally, climbing two spots from the previous report in 2022. The report, unveiled recently in Singapore by DNV and Menon Economics, renowned for evaluating maritime capitals worldwide, recognizes Dubai’s pivotal role in the maritime industry.

The surge in Dubai’s ranking can be attributed to five key factors outlined in the report: its robust shipping centers, advancements in maritime technology, efficient ports and logistics infrastructure, overall attractiveness and competitiveness, and its focus on financial and legal aspects. Notably, the report highlights Dubai’s commitment to green technology in the maritime sector, showcasing its dedication to sustainability.

His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), expressed pride in this achievement, attributing it to the relentless efforts of the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) within PCFC. He emphasized the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the unwavering support from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, in propelling Dubai’s maritime success on the global stage.

HE Bin Sulayem underscored the pivotal role of the DMA in driving Dubai’s maritime progress through strategic plans and initiatives aimed at enhancing competitiveness and fostering sustainable growth. He commended the dedicated teams within PCFC for their contributions, which have propelled Dubai to numerous global achievements and inspired its pursuit of excellence in maritime services.

Dr. Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al-Maktoum, the Executive Director of the DMA, reiterated the Authority’s commitment to leveraging research, development, and innovation to bolster integrated logistics programs. These initiatives align with the highest safety standards, environmental practices, and regulatory requirements, positioning Dubai as a global leader in the maritime domain.

The success in the Leading Maritime Capitals index underscores Dubai’s economic strength and attractiveness as a global hub for security, technology, finance, and green initiatives. Alongside Singapore retaining its title as the leading maritime city globally, Dubai’s feat as the top Arab maritime capital and its 11th global ranking demonstrate its unwavering commitment to advancing its global stature and excelling in the vital maritime sector.
