Edda Wind Expands Fleet with Sustainable Service Vessel Delivery

Edda Wind announces the recent acquisition of the C416 vessel from Astilleros Balenciaga on March 26th, marking a significant stride towards advancing sustainable energy solutions in offshore wind projects.

The arrival of C416 underscores Edda Wind’s dedication to providing reliable support for offshore wind endeavors. Designed as a Service Operation Vessel (SOV), C416 is slated to become a pivotal asset in the contractual agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy at the Saint-Brieuc wind farm in France, with operations extending until the second quarter of 2028.

Zero-Emission Readiness

What sets C416 apart is its adaptability and operational versatility, enabling it to serve wind farms globally. Moreover, the vessel stands out for its readiness for zero-emission operations, facilitated by a cutting-edge Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier concept. This innovative approach, adopted by Edda Wind, adheres to stringent safety standards while offering logistical efficiency and endurance. Notably, the use of hydrogen mitigates safety risks associated with other green fuel alternatives.

Kenneth Walland, CEO of Edda Wind, remarks, “C416 represents the future of offshore wind service vessels, being the second SOV worldwide prepared for a hydrogen-based energy system capable of up to four weeks of endurance. This milestone positions the vessel to support the construction and commissioning of wind farms without generating carbon emissions, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.”

Technical Specifications

Crafted to Salt 0358 design standards, C416 is the sister vessel of “Edda Brint,” previously delivered from the Astilleros Balenciaga shipyard in Spain in October 2022. The vessel boasts accommodation for up to 60 individuals in premium, separate cabins, ensuring comfort and efficiency during offshore operations.

Expanding Fleet

In addition to C416, Edda Wind’s fleet includes two SOVs, Edda Mistral and Edda Brint, along with three CSOVs, namely Edda Breeze, Edda Boreas, and Edda Nordri. As Kenneth Walland emphasizes, specialized service vessels like C416 are instrumental in enhancing efficiency, reducing operational costs, and minimizing environmental impact in wind farm operations. Edda Wind remains well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the industry, offering tailored solutions to drive sustainable growth.
