Finnish VR Group Expands Fleet with Three New Vectron Locomotives Delivered by Aprojects

The Finnish State Railways, VR Group, has successfully received three new Vectron locomotives, expanding their fleet as part of ongoing modernization efforts. The delivery was managed by Aprojects’ team in Germany, in collaboration with Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft mbH, who took charge of retrofitting the locomotives for sea transport. The units, designated with numbers 64 to 66, each weigh 90 tons and measure an impressive 19.04 x 3.05 x 4.44 meters.

These high-spec locomotives were first transported on loco buggies from the manufacturing site in Munich, Bavaria, to Seelandkai, a key logistics hub in northern Germany. Here, they underwent meticulous preparations for their sea journey to Finland. The locomotives were loaded onto the Transfennica ferry Corona Sea for the final leg of their journey to Hanko, Finland, a critical gateway for Finnish freight operations.

The Corona Sea departed from Seelandkai on August 20, 2024, as scheduled, and arrived in Hanko the following day, August 21, 2024. The timely and safe delivery marks yet another successful project for Aprojects and underscores their capability in handling complex and large-scale logistics challenges. With these additions, VR Group strengthens its rail fleet as it continues to prioritize operational efficiency and sustainable transport solutions in Finland.
