Montrose Coastguard Rescue Officers Visit Seagreen Wind Farm Operations Base

Members of the Seagreen team recently hosted a significant visit for the Montrose Coastguard Rescue Officers at the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base located at Montrose Port. The visit provided a firsthand look into the intricate workings of Scotland’s largest and the world’s deepest fixed bottom wind farm, boasting 114 wind turbines.

The highlight of the visit was a tour of the Marine Control Centre, where the seamless coordination and safe operation of the wind farm were demonstrated. Guests witnessed the meticulous control measures in place to ensure the smooth functioning of all turbines, essential for maximizing efficiency and safety.

Following this insightful tour, the group embarked on a journey aboard the purpose-built Service Operations Vessel (SOV), the Edda Brint. Led by Captain Grant, the tour offered a comprehensive understanding of the vessel’s role in facilitating operations and maintenance activities for Seagreen’s offshore wind turbines.

Back at the O&M base, an informal presentation provided the Rescue Officers with detailed insights into the construction and operational setup of the Seagreen project. Pauline Allison, Seagreen’s Stakeholder Engagement Manager, expressed delight in hosting the group, emphasizing the importance of such visits in fostering enduring relationships and showcasing the project’s achievements.

Jen Crews, Vestas Operations Dispatcher, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of building connections with local stakeholders and organizations. She emphasized the collaborative effort required to sustain the wind farm’s operations and underscored the dedication of the teams involved.

Calum Christie, HM Coastguard Area Commander (North East Scotland), expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about Seagreen’s work. Acknowledging the increasing development of renewable energy infrastructure in the region, Christie stressed the importance of understanding these operations for effective search and rescue efforts.

The Seagreen Wind Farm, a joint venture between SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies, stands as a beacon of sustainable energy production. With a capacity to power nearly 1.6 million homes annually, the project signifies a significant stride towards Scotland’s renewable energy goals.
