NYK-Line and Damen Services Revolutionizes Offshore Wind Training with Advanced Simulator

A
kita, Japan – Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK-Line) is set to redefine offshore wind training with the official opening of their state-of-the-art Full Mission Bridge Simulator. The groundbreaking collaboration with Damen Services and maritime simulation leader VSTEP Simulation signals a significant stride in advancing human resource development within the Asia-Pacific offshore wind sector.

In a momentous agreement inked in December 2022, NYK-Line and Damen Services joined forces to introduce an advanced simulator uniquely tailored for offshore wind operations. This simulator, developed in partnership with VSTEP Simulation, recently achieved a pivotal milestone with the successful completion of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) in October.

Scheduled for inauguration on April 1st, the simulator, located at a newly established training center in Akita, Japan, aims to be a focal point for specialized training in offshore wind installations. The training programs, designed for technical personnel and workboat crews, focus on crucial skills such as maneuvering, crew supply, and maintenance in offshore wind parks.

Mr. Tsutomu Yokoyama, Executive Officer & Senior General Manager at NYK Energy Division, emphasized the simulator’s significance, stating, “This simulator is designed to replicate real-world scenarios, offering a comprehensive training experience. NYK-Line’s commitment to excellence in the offshore wind sector aligns seamlessly with Damen Services’ dedication to delivering top-notch maritime solutions.”

Beyond providing cutting-edge training facilities, the NYK-Line and Damen Services consortium actively engages in collaborative initiatives with local governmental bodies and educational institutions. Thomas Röwekamp, Regional Sales Director Asia Pacific at Damen, highlighted the project’s strategic focus on expanding the offshore wind industry and ensuring a skilled workforce.

Bastin Kubbe, Damen Regional Service Manager Asia-Pacific, added, “This simulator provides fleet owners in the Asia-Pacific region with the opportunity to safely test and train their crews in various ship designs, including the Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 2710.”

The official opening of the Full Mission Bridge Simulator in Akita represents a significant leap forward in raising standards for training and human resource development within the offshore wind sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
