Sarens Technical Solutions & Engineering Team Successfully Replaces Pipe Crossing at Tata Steel

The Sarens Technical Solutions & Engineering team recently achieved a remarkable feat by assisting client AMC NV in replacing a vital pipe crossing at Tata Steel’s IJmuiden works in the Netherlands. This facility, which produces approximately 7.5 million tonnes of hot and cold rolled coil annually, required a unique, in-house designed solution for this challenging task.

The core of this project revolved around the development of a specialized lifting tool/frame capable of efficiently maneuvering the pipe crossing within the narrow confines of the pipe rack. To accomplish this demanding objective, Sarens expertly deployed two AC500 cranes and one LTM1650 main boom crane. These pieces of equipment were skillfully transported to the Tata Steel site by trailer from Sarens NL and were assembled with remarkable efficiency, taking only a single day to set up.

In June of 2023, over the course of four days, Sarens demonstrated their exceptional expertise by employing the three cranes to carefully extract the old pipe crossing from the pipe rack and seamlessly replace it with a new one. The limited space presented a considerable challenge, but Sarens overcame this obstacle by utilizing their custom-engineered lifting frame as a stabilizing factor, ensuring precise and safe movements.

By the successful conclusion of this project, Sarens had successfully exchanged 90 tons of old pipe crossing with 50 tons of new components, a testament to their engineering prowess and dedication to the task at hand. Sarens extends their heartfelt gratitude to all parties involved for their collaborative efforts in making this project a resounding success.

This impressive feat by the Sarens Technical Solutions & Engineering team exemplifies their commitment to delivering innovative and efficient solutions in the field of maritime, breakbulk, project cargo, and logistics. Their ability to tackle complex projects with precision and skill continues to solidify their reputation as leaders in the industry.
