Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has landed a significant deal to provide the cargo handling and fuel systems for three massive Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLEC). These vessels, each boasting a capacity of 98,000 cubic meters, are under construction at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in Korea for an Oceania-based shipowner. The order was confirmed in the first quarter of 2024.
This contract follows closely on the heels of a similar agreement between HHI and Wärtsilä for three VLECs being constructed for another client, reaffirming Wärtsilä’s dominant position in this sector.
Harald Øverland, Sales Manager at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “We have a strong partnership with HHI. Being a reliable provider of high-quality systems to our customers is paramount for us. Wärtsilä is pleased to contribute to this trend with efficient and dependable systems.”
The delivery of equipment to the shipyard is scheduled to commence in March 2025.
