Assisting at Float-On Operation: Blue Water Ensures Success for Van Oord’s Vessels

Blue Water played a pivotal role in the successful float-on operation of three vessels onto the remarkable “Seaway Albatross.” The operation, conducted in January, marked another milestone in Blue Water’s collaboration with the esteemed client, Van Oord, and their involvement in the monumental Femernbelt Fixed Link Project.

The float-on operation took place at Aabenraa Fjord, a carefully chosen location based on Blue Water’s extensive experience in similar endeavors. Van Oord, engaged in the Femernbelt Fixed Link Project, sought Blue Water’s expertise not only for the float-on operation but also entrusted them with the responsibility of operating the port in Rødby.

During the critical period between Christmas and New Year, Van Oord sought guidance from Blue Water, relying on their expertise to determine the optimal area for the float-on operation. Drawing from past successful operations, Blue Water recommended Aabenraa Fjord, setting the stage for a flawless execution.

Blue Water’s role extended beyond mere recommendations; they actively facilitated port call coordination for all vessels involved. This comprehensive assistance included crew transfer arrangements and accommodation provisions for seafarers disembarking the vessels. The vessels seamlessly continued their journey as cargo, securely loaded onto the semi-submersible vessel “Seaway Albatross.”

Ömer Karakus, Assistant Manager Port Agency at Blue Water, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “It has been a great pleasure working with Van Oord on this very interesting project. We have built a strong expertise within these types of operations, and it is always a pleasure to succeed with such significant tasks.”

The Femernbelt Fixed Link Project, Denmark’s largest and most expensive construction venture to date, is expected to conclude by 2029. The tunnel connecting Denmark and Germany will operate on green power, emphasizing energy efficiency and future-proof solutions, contributing to a larger European strategy to establish green traffic corridors.
