Van Oord Achieves Milestone: Completes Installation of Hollandse Kust Noord Offshore Wind Farm

Van Oord has announced the successful completion of the installation of the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm. Nestled 18.5 kilometers off the west coast of the Netherlands near Egmond aan Zee, this wind farm is now a powerhouse, generating renewable energy to meet the needs of over 1 million Dutch households.

Swift Progress

Initiated under the aegis of CrossWind, a joint venture between energy giants Shell and Eneco, Van Oord, serving as the Balance of Plant contractor, undertook a multifaceted role. From design and engineering to procurement, transport, and installation, Van Oord seamlessly managed the entire process. The scope encompassed 70 wind turbine foundations, inter-array cables, and the transportation and installation of the wind turbines themselves.

Van Oord kicked off the installation of the wind farm’s foundations in October 2022 and remarkably concluded the project within a year, marking it as one of the fastest installations of its kind. The company employed its cutting-edge fleet, including the flexible fallpipe vessels Bravenes and Nordnes, the offshore installation jack-up vessel MPI Resolution, cable-laying vessel Nexus, and trencher Dig-It. Collaborating with industry peers DEME, Seajacks, and Cadeler further enhanced the efficiency of the project.

Crucial Role in Dutch Offshore Wind Development

The completion of the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm underscores the pivotal role of offshore wind in the Netherlands’ energy transition. Van Oord has consistently been a major contributor to the development and construction of Dutch offshore wind farms. Noteworthy projects in their portfolio include the Gemini Offshore Wind Park, Windpark Fryslân, and offshore wind farm Borssele III & IV and site V.

With this latest achievement, Van Oord continues to build an impressive track record in offshore wind projects, further solidifying its standing as a key player in advancing sustainable energy initiatives. The expeditious completion of the Hollandse Kust Noord project not only highlights Van Oord’s commitment to renewable energy but also sets a new benchmark for the industry.

Looking Ahead: A Sustainable Future

As the world grapples with the urgency of addressing climate change, milestones like the completion of the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm become beacons of hope. Van Oord’s relentless pursuit of excellence in renewable energy projects exemplifies the private sector’s crucial role in driving the transition towards a sustainable and greener future.

In conclusion, the successful installation of the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of Van Oord and its industry partners, marking a significant leap forward in the journey towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.
