Konecranes’ material handling equipment and services support growth of Eldorado Brasil Celulose Logistica in Latin America’s largest port

In a strategic move to fortify its position as the cellulose logistics benchmark, Eldorado Brasil Celulose Logistica partnered with Konecranes. The collaboration culminated in the delivery of seven forklifts and two gantry cranes to Eldorado’s new cellulose terminal at the Port of Santos, Latin America’s largest port. The equipment not only facilitates seamless operations but also underscores the commitment to productivity, safety, and eco-efficiency.

Elevating Logistics at Latin America’s Largest Port

The new terminal, designed to process a staggering 3,000,000 tons of pulp bales annually, is a testament to Eldorado’s ambitious growth plans. Approximately 8,300 tons daily will be transported by rail and truck, with around 90% of the pulp destined for export to 45 countries worldwide. Recognizing the critical role of efficient material handling in achieving their objectives, Eldorado engaged Konecranes for joint planning and consulting on the terminal layout, ensuring optimal business returns on their substantial investment.

A Trusted Partnership

Eldorado’s choice of Konecranes stems from a decade-long positive experience with a Konecranes indoor overhead crane at another pulp mill. Leandro Nogueira, Logistics Operations Manager at Eldorado Brazil, expressed satisfaction, stating, “After just a few months, we’re already impressed with the productivity, safety and eco-efficiency.” The collaboration extends beyond equipment provision; Konecranes aims to provide comprehensive support, positioning itself as a long-term partner committed to Eldorado’s success.

Tailor-Made Solutions for Efficiency and Safety

The seven Konecranes SMV 16-1200 C 16-ton forklifts feature specialized clamps designed for pallet-free lifting of pulp bales. Equipped with safety enhancements such as shock absorbers, safety lights, and cameras, these forklifts prioritize both efficiency and operator safety. The two gantry cranes, tailor-made to Eldorado’s specifications, incorporate Smart Features for precise movement, while recycling braking energy contributes to eco-efficiency.

Embracing Digitalization for Enhanced Performance

Apart from the equipment, Konecranes is providing Eldorado Brasil with TRUCONNECT® Remote Monitoring. This technology collects real-time diagnostics to optimize equipment performance, maintenance, and eco-efficiency. The data is accessible 24/7 through the online customer portal yourKONECRANES.

A Future-focused Industry Leader

Andrés Ramirez, Regional Sales Manager, Lift Trucks, Konecranes, notes, “The new cellulose terminal is a state-of-the-art digital ecosystem that brings the highest levels of efficiency and safety to lifting in the pulp and paper industry.” Konecranes, driven by customer-centricity and a dedication to business growth, continues their lifting industry with investments in digitalization, technology, and solutions that contribute to decarbonization, circularity, and safety.
