Boskalis, a global leader in maritime, breakbulk, project freight, cargo, and logistics, has successfully installed an Energy Storage System on its diving support vessel, the BOKA Atlantis. The groundbreaking initiative took place at the Boskalis Service Center in Rotterdam, where a robust set of batteries was integrated into the vessel’s infrastructure.
The introduction of this cutting-edge Energy Storage System marks a pivotal moment for Boskalis, as it is expected to substantially decrease the frequency of the engines running on the BOKA Atlantis. Contrary to a decrease in workload, this green intervention aims to optimize operations while reducing the vessel’s fuel consumption and minimizing carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by an impressive average of up to twenty percent.
The BOKA Atlantis now boasts a 450 kWh battery pack, making it the first vessel in the Boskalis fleet to undergo this eco-friendly retrofit. The success of this endeavor has prompted the initiation of a similar “green intervention” on the diving support vessel BOKA Da Vinci, currently underway in Rotterdam. Furthermore, plans are in motion to equip more powerful offshore vessels with Energy Storage Systems later in the year.
