The CMA CGM Group has appointed Patrick Moebel as Chief Executive Officer of CEVA Logistics, marking a significant leadership change as the global logistics provider enters its next phase of expansion following the integration of Bolloré Logistics.

The appointments, effective from July 1, 2026, also see former CEVA chief executive Mathieu Friedberg move into a newly focused transformation role at the parent company, where he will oversee artificial intelligence, information technology, cybersecurity, ZEBOX and CMA Conseil.

The changes form part of a broader reshaping of the CMA CGM executive committee as the French shipping and logistics group seeks to accelerate technology driven transformation while continuing to expand its integrated transport offering.

CEVA enters a new phase after Bolloré integration

Moebel joins CEVA Logistics with more than three decades of experience across transportation and supply chain management. Most recently, he served as President of FedEx Logistics, where he led global logistics activities across multiple freight segments and international markets.

His appointment comes as CEVA moves beyond the complex integration of Bolloré Logistics, one of the largest acquisitions in the company’s history. The acquisition significantly expanded CEVA’s global footprint, strengthening its contract logistics, freight forwarding and customs capabilities.

With much of that integration now completed, CEVA is shifting its attention toward growth rather than consolidation.

According to CMA CGM, Moebel will focus on expanding CEVA’s presence in North America while strengthening the company’s end to end logistics portfolio and improving operational synergies between the group’s shipping, logistics and air cargo businesses.

For customers, the next challenge is no longer integrating acquisitions. It is making those businesses operate as a single connected network.

Industry veteran brings global logistics experience

Moebel’s career spans more than 30 years across international transportation and logistics operations.

His experience at FedEx Logistics exposed him to increasingly complex global supply chains during a period marked by pandemic disruption, shifting trade patterns, geopolitical tensions and rapid digitalisation.

Those same forces continue reshaping freight forwarding and contract logistics today.

As supply chains become more regional and customers demand greater visibility across transport modes, logistics providers are increasingly expected to offer integrated solutions rather than standalone services.

That trend has become central to CMA CGM’s broader strategy of combining container shipping, air freight, contract logistics and inland transport under one commercial platform.

Moebel will work closely with CEVA’s existing management team as the company continues building operational links across those business units.

Friedberg takes technology transformation role

After six years leading CEVA Logistics, Friedberg now moves to a group wide transformation position inside CMA CGM.

During his tenure, CEVA completed several major acquisitions and expanded into one of the world’s largest logistics companies. The business now ranks among the global top five logistics providers, supported by approximately 1,000 warehouses worldwide and handling around 15 million shipments during 2025.

His new responsibilities reflect the increasing importance of technology across modern supply chains.

Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital platforms are rapidly becoming competitive differentiators for logistics providers. From warehouse automation to predictive shipment planning and customer visibility tools, technology is reshaping how freight moves through increasingly complex international networks.

By consolidating these activities under a single executive, CMA CGM appears to be placing technology transformation alongside its traditional transport businesses as a strategic priority.

CMA CGM continues integrated logistics strategy

The leadership changes also reinforce CMA CGM’s long term strategy of becoming an integrated transport and logistics provider rather than remaining solely a container shipping company.

Over the past several years, the Marseille headquartered group has invested heavily across logistics, air cargo, terminals, inland transport and digital services.

Today the group operates in 177 countries and employs approximately 160,000 people worldwide.

Its shipping division serves more than 420 ports using a fleet exceeding 700 vessels and transported more than 24 million TEUs during 2025.

Alongside CEVA Logistics, CMA CGM AIR CARGO and Air Belgium support the group’s growing multimodal transport capabilities, allowing customers to move cargo through coordinated sea, air and inland networks.

As global supply chains continue adapting to changing trade routes, regional manufacturing shifts and customer demands for greater resilience, leadership capable of combining operational expertise with technology implementation is becoming increasingly valuable.

The appointments of Patrick Moebel and Mathieu Friedberg suggest CMA CGM intends to pursue both objectives simultaneously by separating day to day logistics operations from longer term digital transformation initiatives.
