EDF Renewables UK, ESB, and Reventus Power Join Forces for Gwynt Glas Floating Offshore Wind Farm

EDF Renewables UK is forging ahead in the renewable energy sector with a new partnership that aims to tap into the potential of the Celtic Sea. Teaming up with Irish renewable energy developer ESB and global offshore wind investor Reventus Power, the trio is set to develop the Gwynt Glas Floating Offshore Wind Farm.

This partnership marks a significant step forward, with each entity owning an equal share of 33.33%. The commitment is clear: to deliver floating offshore wind projects in the Celtic Sea region. As they gear up for The Crown Estate’s Leasing Round 5, the consortium is poised to make a substantial impact on the renewable energy landscape.

DP Energy remains a key player in the project as a development partner, leveraging local expertise and engagement to maximize the project’s potential.

The Gwynt Glas project team has been actively involved in the Celtic Sea region, making strides in maximizing opportunities. This includes hosting supply chain events and implementing innovative programs like Destination Renewables, aimed at inspiring the future workforce.

Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renewables UK, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting existing collaborations with ESB on projects such as Neart na Gaoithe and Stornoway. He emphasized the consortium’s commitment to clean energy and its potential to create skilled jobs and stimulate local economies.

Jim Dollard, Executive Director of Generation Trading at ESB, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of offshore wind in achieving ESB’s Net Zero by 2040 target. Dollard highlighted the significance of floating offshore wind, particularly in the UK and Ireland, where abundant resources await harnessing.

Michael van der Heijden, CEO of Reventus Power, emphasized the consortium’s collective expertise in the floating offshore wind market. He underscored the alignment of the Celtic Sea opportunity with Reventus Power’s global ambitions in offshore wind development.

The partnership is poised to capitalize on the vast potential of offshore wind energy, contributing to a sustainable energy future.
