EnBW and Wallaby Boats Launch Innovative Offshore Transfer Vessel “Impulse”

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG and Wallaby Boats GmbH marked a significant milestone today with the christening of the groundbreaking Impulse offshore transfer vessel at the Port of Kappeln. The ceremony, attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr. Robert Habeck, highlighted the vessel’s innovative suspension system, designed to ensure safe access to offshore wind turbines even in challenging sea conditions.

The Impulse transfer vessel, developed jointly by EnBW and Wallaby Boats, boasts a cutting-edge suspension system that enhances safety for technicians while maximizing efficiency. This technology enables personnel to access offshore wind turbines reliably, even in adverse weather, ensuring uninterrupted operations. Notably, the vessel promises to be more economical compared to its predecessors, aligning with EnBW’s commitment to sustainable energy production.

Dr. Georg Stamatelopoulos, CEO of EnBW, emphasized the significance of innovative technologies in advancing offshore operations, stating, “With the Impulse transfer vessel, we are raising the bar for safety and efficiency at sea. This vessel underscores our dedication to harnessing offshore wind energy reliably and cost-effectively, contributing to a sustainable energy future.”

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Dr. Robert Habeck, praised the Impulse vessel as a testament to German engineering prowess, essential for achieving Germany’s ambitious renewable energy targets. He emphasized the need for continued investment in such vessels to support the growth of offshore wind energy and decarbonize the nation’s energy sector.

Julia Carstens, Schleswig-Holstein’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Technology, commended Wallaby Boats GmbH for showcasing the innovative potential of young companies. She highlighted the vessel’s contribution to regional development and improved safety standards for offshore personnel, underscoring its significance in advancing maritime technology.

Harald Hübner, Managing Director of OFFCON GmbH, expressed gratitude for the collaborative support that enabled the vessel’s development and highlighted the role of Schleswig-Holstein in fostering innovation in the maritime sector.
