Evergreen Partners with Copenhagen Infrastructure for Carbon-Neutral E-Fuels

Evergreen has joined forces with Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to spearhead the production and adoption of carbon-neutral e-fuels. This collaborative effort, outlined in a memorandum of understanding, encompasses various facets, including the production of e-fuels in Taiwan, leveraging offshore wind, and the exploration of a wider array of green fuels like e-ammonia and e-methanol.

CIP, at the helm of its Energy Transition Fund, is currently engaged in the construction and development of numerous offshore wind farms in Taiwan. With a firm foothold in the country, controlling approximately 10% of the global container shipping fleet, CIP stands as a significant player in the industry.

Evergreen commands a fleet of over 200 vessels plying the world’s oceans, supplemented by a substantial order book that includes 24 methanol dual-fuel , (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) vessels.

Acknowledging the monumental task of decarbonizing such an operation, CIP recognizes the need for a diverse range of fuel options. The partnership with CIP is poised to bolster Evergreen’s quest for low-carbon fuel solutions, essential in charting its course towards net-zero emissions by 2050.

CIP manages a portfolio of ten funds, having raised approximately €25 billion for investments spanning offshore and onshore wind, solar PV, biomass, energy-from-waste, and Power-to-X. These investments have garnered support from over 150 international institutional investors.

Felix Pahl, a partner at CIP, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Evergreen, stating, “ETF is the world’s largest fund dedicated to investing and developing advanced energy technology which supports the transition to renewable energy. CIP already has a strong footprint in Taiwan, and we are looking forward to working with Evergreen to further support Taiwan’s ambition of realizing 2050 net zero goal.”

This strategic partnership underscores Evergreen’s commitment to achieving its carbon reduction targets. In alignment with the International Maritime Organization’s directive for net-zero carbon emissions in shipping, Evergreen is resolute in attaining this objective by 2050. The collaboration with CIP promises to furnish critical support in the exploration and development of low-carbon fuel solutions necessary for this ambitious endeavor.
