Huisman Teams Up with Dong Fang Offshore to Deliver Cutting-Edge Cable Carousel Solution

Huisman, has taken a significant stride in the offshore wind industry by partnering with Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) for the supply of a state-of-the-art Cable Carousel along with the possibility of an accompanying Cable-Lay System. This strategic collaboration is set to revolutionize subsea cable-laying operations for fixed and floating offshore wind projects.

The centerpiece of this venture is the impressive Cable Carousel boasting a staggering storage capacity of 3,000 tons. Ingeniously designed to optimize space, the carousel will be positioned below deck on the Orient Adventurer, a prominent pipelay vessel. The integration of Huisman’s already established Vertical-Lay System with this new addition will enhance efficiency and effectiveness in cable-laying endeavors.

One of the striking features of Huisman’s innovation is its adaptability. The design of the Cable Carousel has been meticulously tailored to suit the Orient Adventurer’s storage hold for cable-laying and pipe-laying tasks. This not only underscores Huisman’s engineering prowess but also signifies its commitment to practicality and functionality. The proposed design draws from Huisman’s proven carousel and storage components, ensuring reduced delivery timelines and mitigated technical risks. The scheduled delivery for this groundbreaking solution is slated for the first half of 2024.

Beyond the Cable Carousel, Dong Fang Offshore has expressed keen interest in a novel horizontal Huisman Cable-Lay System. Uniquely designed to be temporarily installed on versatile offshore vessels, this inventive system aligns with the industry’s growing demand for enhanced offshore construction capabilities. A defining trait of this design lies in its swift mobilization and demobilization, facilitating adaptability to varying operational requirements.

DFO’s CEO, Polin Chen, asserts that this decision stems from their unwavering commitment to invest in top-notch enabling assets. These assets are pivotal in supporting their clientele’s operations and fortifying the domestic supply chain, a crucial aspect of Taiwan’s green energy expansion.

Timon Ligterink, the Commercial Director APAC at Huisman, resonates this enthusiasm, highlighting the collaborative spirit of innovation and excellence that this Letter of Intent signifies. Ligterink views this partnership as a means to push the boundaries of offshore construction, while simultaneously boosting DFO’s cable-laying aspirations.

Drawing from their rich expertise in motion compensation systems, tensioners, and pipelay systems, Huisman’s foray into groundbreaking cable-lay solutions showcases their commitment to pushing the industry’s technical boundaries. With an established track record in safeguarding product integrity and facilitating efficient installation procedures for flexible pipes and power cables, Huisman’s Cable Carousel and Cable-Lay System are set to reshape the landscape of offshore wind operations.
