Jan de Nul Wraps Up Gode Wind 3 Offshore Substation Installation

Danish energy giant Ørsted has marked a milestone with the successful installation of the offshore substation topside at the Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm. Located approximately 30 km off the picturesque island of Norderney in the German North Sea, this accomplishment paves the way for clean energy generation on a grand scale.

The offshore substation topside serves as the nerve center of the Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm, designed to efficiently collect and convert the energy harnessed by its 23 towering wind turbines. This cutting-edge offshore wind farm boasts an impressive capacity of 253 MW and is Ørsted’s fifth such endeavor in Germany. Combined with the under-construction Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farm, it will contribute to the green power supply for an astounding 1.2 million German households.

Jan de Nul, a renowned name in maritime and offshore construction, took the reins for this monumental installation. Employing their state-of-the-art vessel, Les Alizés, Jan de Nul executed the task with precision. The Belgian company not only undertook the Gode Wind 3 project but also secured the contract for Borkum Riffgrund 3. Their scope of work encompassed transporting and installing 106 wind turbine foundations, in addition to the foundation for the offshore substation, which now proudly houses the topside equipment.

As an integral part of the project, Atlantique Offshore Energy, a dedicated business unit of Chantiers de l’Atlantique focused on offshore marine energy, took charge of the entire engineering process, procurement, construction (EPC), and commissioning of the offshore electrical substation. This encompassed both the topside and the Modular Support Frame, ensuring that the Gode Wind 3 wind farm is set to operate at peak efficiency.

This achievement underscores Ørsted’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in Germany, while the expertise of Jan de Nul and Atlantique Offshore Energy has once again proven instrumental in making such ambitious projects a reality.

In the wake of this momentous installation, Gode Wind 3 is poised to contribute significantly to Germany’s renewable energy landscape, bringing us one step closer to a greener future.

Quoting Thomas Dalsgaard, Ørsted’s Vice President, and Country Manager for Germany: “The successful installation of the offshore substation topside is a key milestone for the Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm, and we appreciate the dedication and expertise of Jan de Nul and Atlantique Offshore Energy in achieving this.”
