Langh Ship Unveils Second 7800 DWT Vessel: Olivia

In a naming ceremony held on January 22, 2024, Langh Ship proudly introduced the second vessel in its series of three 7800 DWT multipurpose vessels. The event, graced by the vessel’s godmother, Miss Natalie Ella Olivia Toivola, unfolded in Ningbo, China, where the new ship received its official name—Olivia. Miss Toivola, with the honor of cutting the ribbon, released the symbolic champagne bottle, marking a significant milestone for Langh Ship.

The naming ceremony was not only a traditional affair but also a vibrant spectacle featuring a captivating Chinese dragon dance. Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Langh Ship’s Managing Director, delivered a welcoming speech, setting the tone for the event. Adding to the significance of the occasion, Mr. Chen Anming, Marketing Director of Wuhu Shipyard, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the collaborative efforts behind this maritime endeavor. Attendees were later treated to an insightful vessel tour.

Constructed at the Wuhu Shipyard in China, Olivia incorporates cutting-edge technology and advanced emission reduction solutions, positioning it as a trailblazer in line with Langh Ship’s commitment to zero-emission sea transports. Langh Tech, the sister company of Langh Ship, focuses on developing environmentally friendly components for the shipping industry. Olivia boasts Langh Tech’s latest innovation—a carbon capture system designed for marine use. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with a Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) developed by Langh Tech, effectively preventing the spread of invasive species through ballast water carried in its tanks.

This series of three vessels is dedicated to serving Langh Ship’s long-standing trade of transporting steel coils from Finland to central Europe for Outokumpu, a Finnish stainless steel producer. The vessels play a crucial role in the return journey, transporting recycled stainless steel and other bulk products. Langh Ship, with an emphasis on safety and efficiency, has developed in-house solutions for tailored cargo carriage, specifically for steel coils. The introduction of the cradle tween decks over two decades ago marked a transformative moment, significantly enhancing the safety of sea transport for steel coils.

Olivia’s sister vessel, Lovisa, delivered to Langh Ship in November, has already made its mark in Europe, entering Outokumpu’s liner service between Finland and the Netherlands in early January. As Langh Ship continues to innovate and contribute to sustainable shipping practices, the introduction of Olivia marks a significant step forward in their mission to revolutionize sea transport.
