Marcor Stevedoring Welcomes New LHM 800 Crane from Liebherr to Enhance Bulk Cargo Operations

Rostock, Germany, March 2024 – Marcor Stevedoring B.V. has announced the arrival of a new mobile harbour crane, the LHM 800, at its Hartel Terminal in Rotterdam. This cutting-edge crane marks a significant advancement in the company’s logistical capabilities, serving as a crucial link between the port’s quay and storage warehouses for dry bulk cargo.

With a lifting capacity of 104 tonnes and equipped with state-of-the-art SmartGrip technology, the LHM 800 promises to revolutionize cargo handling operations at Marcor Stevedoring. The innovative system ensures optimal grab capacity utilization, thereby enhancing the overall handling rate and efficiency of the terminal.

The strategic acquisition of the LHM 800 aligns with Marcor Stevedoring’s commitment to sustainable growth. The company aims to promote more environmentally friendly practices by incorporating renewable energy sources and cleaner drive concepts into its operations. In line with this vision, a second LHM 800 crane has been ordered and is scheduled to join the fleet later this year.

The Hartel Terminal boasts an extensive infrastructure, featuring a 130,000 m² terminal area and a 600-meter quay with a 16-meter draft alongside. This expansive facility caters to vessels ranging from barges to 120,000 DWT baby-cape vessels, facilitating both board-to-board transshipment and terminal discharge operations.

The introduction of the LHM 800 heralds a new era of sustainability for bulk cargo handling. Unlike traditional diesel-powered cranes, the LHM 800 operates without generating additional local emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment. Furthermore, its advanced design ensures a quieter noise profile, minimizing disturbances to the surrounding area.

In terms of performance, the LHM 800 boasts impressive capabilities, with the ability to handle upwards of 2,000 tonnes of dry bulk capacity under ideal conditions. Its extended boom length of 64 meters and eye-level height of 30.8 meters enable seamless cargo transfer between the quay and storage facilities, optimizing operational efficiency.

Danny Swart, Director of Marcor Stevedoring, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition to their fleet, stating, “With the LHM 800, we have gained a competitive edge in the dry bulk market. It is a versatile and powerful machine that can handle any type of cargo, from ore to grains and fertilizers. It also reduces our fuel consumption and emissions, which is in line with our sustainability goals.”

Collaborating with industry leader Liebherr, Marcor Stevedoring is at the forefront of innovation in bulk cargo handling. The integration of Liebherr’s SmartGrip technology enhances operational efficiency by optimizing grab entry angles and load distribution, ultimately saving time and energy.

As the demand for logistical capacity continues to grow, investments in advanced equipment like the LHM 800 are essential to meet evolving industry needs. Marcor Stevedoring’s forward-thinking approach underscores its commitment to driving the dry bulk industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.
