Bavaria’s Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder inaugurated Gebrüder Weiss’ new logistics center in Straubing on April 18. The event coincided with “Logistics Day,” an annual industry celebration where companies across the nation open their doors to the public. Söder hailed Gebrüder Weiss’ €14 million investment in Straubing as a beacon of hope amidst challenges facing the truck logistics sector in Germany. He emphasized the importance of innovative entrepreneurs and motivated employees in navigating through current economic uncertainties.
Markus Söder remarked, “We need forward-looking entrepreneurs and motivated employees more than ever.”
Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, echoed Söder’s sentiments, expressing confidence in Bavaria as an ideal business environment. Senger-Weiss highlighted Bavaria’s conducive business conditions and the company’s commitment to investing in the region. He also underscored the importance of clear governmental support for the transition to e-mobility, citing the need for subsidies to make electric trucks financially viable.
Despite challenges, Gebrüder Weiss remains committed to environmentally friendly practices. The company aims to operate its facilities and vehicle fleet in a climate-neutral manner by 2030. Already, an e-truck stationed in Straubing facilitates short-distance transport of general cargo, exemplifying the company’s dedication to sustainability.
During the inauguration, Minister-President Söder familiarized himself with the logistics operations at the Straubing facility. The center, spanning 3,700 square meters, prepares incoming goods for distribution across Germany and international markets via air and sea freight. It also serves as a distribution hub for Eastern Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, and Upper Palatinate.
Gebrüder Weiss plans to expand its Straubing facility in the coming years, investing a significant sum in additional warehouses and handling facilities. The company’s expansion strategy aligns with its broader objective of strengthening its presence in southern Germany.
In recent years, Gebrüder Weiss has established a robust network of locations in southern Germany, including branches and subsidiaries in strategic locations such as Aldingen, Altensteig, Bayreuth, Esslingen, Konradsreuth, Memmingen, Nuremberg, Passau, and Waldkraiburg.
