Monjasa and FAMOIL Pioneer First ISCC-Certified Bio Bunker Fuel Supply on South America’s Pacific Coast

Monjasa, in collaboration with Fuel & Marine Oil Corp (FAMOIL), successfully completed the first International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC)-certified bio bunker fuel supply on South America’s Pacific Coast.

The operation, conducted on February 22 in the Port of Callao, Peru, saw Monjasa supply a total of 510 metric tonnes (mt) of B30 marine biofuels to the Cargill-operated dry bulk carrier, Infinity Sky.

This initiative marks the establishment of a scalable 2nd generation marine biofuels supply chain, capable of delivering 12,000-15,000 tonnes monthly, and signifies a crucial step towards decarbonizing vessels in the region.

Jonas Bruslund, Trading Director Americas at Monjasa, emphasized the company’s commitment to offering innovative solutions to shipowners seeking to reduce emissions: “We are excited to keep challenging the status quo and offer new solutions to shipowners who are increasingly looking for ways to decarbonise their vessels.”

The collaboration between Monjasa and FAMOIL demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing the evolving marine fuels landscape. By providing biofuel options that accommodate varying preferences, including VLSFO and HSFO-based biofuel blends, as well as pure biodiesel B100, the partnership ensures flexibility and accessibility for shipowners.

Furthermore, as an ISCC-certified partner, Monjasa enables transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain by tracing feedstock origins and measuring greenhouse gas emissions. This commitment to sustainability aligns with the industry’s efforts to meet IMO’s 2050 climate change commitments.

Reflecting on the achievement, Monjasa expressed gratitude to its partners, FAMOIL and Cargill, for their contributions to reaching this milestone and emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving meaningful change within the maritime industry.

Looking ahead, Monjasa aims to establish additional biofuels supply locations across the region, further supporting the shipping industry’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable fuel options.

This pioneering biofuel supply operation in Peru sets a precedent for future initiatives aimed at reducing emissions and promoting environmental stewardship within the maritime sector.
