Saipem Secures Long-Term Charter for JSD6000 Offshore Heavy Lifting Ship

Saipem, a global leader in engineering and drilling services, has inked a significant deal with ZPMC, a renowned Chinese state-owned port and naval machinery manufacturer. The agreement entails a long-term charter for the cutting-edge JSD6000 vessel, marking a pivotal moment in the offshore heavy lifting and construction sector.

The JSD6000, hailed as the latest generation ship for offshore heavy lifting, construction, and pipelaying, saw its completion ceremony held at ZPMC’s base in Changxing. This milestone event signifies the culmination of meticulous design and construction efforts, paving the way for the vessel’s deployment in Saipem’s operations.

Under the terms of the contract, Saipem is set to embark on a five-year bareboat charter of the JSD6000, with provisions for two extension options of one year each. This strategic move aligns seamlessly with Saipem’s capital-light strategy outlined in its Strategic Plan, demonstrating the company’s commitment to flexibility and efficiency in fleet management.

Scheduled for delivery in June 2024, the addition of the JSD6000 to Saipem’s fleet marks a significant enhancement of the company’s capabilities in deepwater subsea installation services. With a robust DP3 dynamic positioning system and an impressive heavy-lift capacity of up to 5,200 tonnes, the vessel is primed to tackle complex projects with precision and reliability.

One of the key advantages offered by the JSD6000 is its versatility in pipeline laying, boasting the capability to handle pipelines of up to 36″ diameter in J-Lay mode and up to 60″ in S-Lay mode, even in water depths reaching 3,000 meters. This technological prowess positions Saipem as a formidable player in meeting the evolving demands of the offshore energy industry.

In embracing the charter of the JSD6000, Saipem not only reinforces its commitment to operational excellence but also underscores its dedication to environmental stewardship and safety standards. By investing in state-of-the-art assets like the JSD6000, Saipem remains at the forefront of innovation, driving sustainable growth and delivering value to its stakeholders.
