Halong Bay, known for its breathtaking limestone karsts and serene emerald waters, recently served as the backdrop for a remarkable maritime operation. In an impressive display of engineering finesse and logistical coordination, the heavy lift vessel (HLV) Jumbo Kinetic undertook the intricate task of transporting seven new Damen tugboats. The project was executed under the watchful eye of Damen’s Delivery department, emphasizing their commitment to precision and efficiency in global shipping.
Each of the five main tugboats measured 24.74 meters in length, 13.10 meters in width, and 15.95 meters in height, with an individual weight of 459 tonnes. The two additional vessels shared the same dimensions but were slightly taller at 16.45 meters and weighed 540 tonnes each. The sheer size and weight of these vessels highlighted the complexity of the loading process and required meticulous preparation to ensure safe and secure handling.

The Jumbo Kinetic, a key asset in the SAL Heavy Lift fleet, performed these challenging lifts with precision. Utilizing its specialized lifting capabilities, the vessel carefully hoisted each tug onto the pre-arranged supports aboard its deck. This operation was not just about brute strength; it required strategic positioning and expert timing to align each tug correctly and fasten them securely for the transcontinental journey to Antwerp, Belgium.
Under the direction of the Damen Delivery department, the process unfolded smoothly, showcasing seamless collaboration between Damen and the JSI Alliance crew. The experienced hands onboard worked in concert, demonstrating their mastery of maritime logistics. The flawless execution of the project reinforced SAL Heavy Lift’s reputation for handling complex cargo operations with an unmatched level of care and professionalism.

Acknowledging the long-standing partnership, SAL Heavy Lift expressed gratitude toward Damen for their ongoing trust and commitment. This project served as a testament to the capabilities of the JSI Alliance team and their dedication to supporting global clients with innovative and dependable solutions. In a sector where timing, safety, and precision are paramount, the successful loading of these tugs added another chapter to SAL’s robust portfolio of maritime logistics achievements.
As the tugs head for Belgium, the industry is reminded once again that in the world of breakbulk and project cargo, SAL Heavy Lift and its partners continue to set benchmarks for excellence.
