Sarens Executes Complex Lifts in Aalst, Belgium

Sarens recently undertook a challenging project in Aalst, Belgium. The task involved lifting an evaporator and separator, along with several ancillary components crucial for operations, at the Tereos Starch & Sweeteners Europe facility in the heart of the city.

The operation, executed in April 2024, demanded precise planning and execution due to the congested urban environment and stringent time constraints. Despite these challenges, Sarens successfully completed the lifts within the allocated timeframe, showcasing their expertise in handling complex projects.

The project site, situated in a bustling city center, presented logistical hurdles that required close collaboration with local authorities, including law enforcement, to minimize disruption to the surrounding area. Additionally, stringent wind restrictions necessitated constant monitoring to ensure the safety of the operation.

The centerpiece of the project was the lifting of a 150-ton evaporator to a height exceeding 50 meters. To accomplish this feat within the confined space, Sarens deployed specialized equipment, including AC700 cranes equipped with luffing jibs sourced from France and the Netherlands. Complementing these were carefully selected mobile cranes, each tailored to meet the specific demands of the task.

Rigging the equipment involved meticulous planning, with over 20 transports mobilized for the operation. The intricate process of installing the luffer jibs further underscored the need for precise engineering and seamless coordination.

Transporting the heavy components to the site was facilitated by vessels, navigating through narrow canals to reach the destination safely. With a skilled crew comprising more than 10 members, the lifts were executed efficiently, causing minimal disruption to the neighborhood.

Project Manager Luc De Meester expressed satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting the professionalism and expertise of the team involved. The successful completion of the project underscores Sarens’ commitment to excellence in the field of maritime logistics and project freight management.
