Sarens Executes Precision Engineering Triumph: Chevêtre P1 Installed Successfully in France

Sarens achieved the successful installation of Chevêtre P1 in Autreville-sur-Moselle, right by the picturesque Moselle River. The accomplishment, tailored for client Baudin Chateauneuf, showcases Sarens’ prowess in overcoming unique challenges with custom solutions.

The project’s planning phase faced specific obstacles head-on:

  • The task at hand demanded the installation of Chevêtre P1 within a narrow six-hour window, precisely when the Moselle was entirely closed.
  • An additional challenge arose as the team had to devise a solution utilizing a barge with a 290T capacity, ensuring it could snugly fit between Piles P1.

To conquer these challenges, Sarens deployed a range of specialized equipment, including Sarens Modular Barges (SMBs), Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), Ballast Pumps BE200, and Hydraulic Winches. Each piece of equipment was meticulously chosen to guarantee efficiency, safety, and precision – vital aspects in intricate projects like this one.

The logistics of transporting the equipment to the site were no small feat. Material for the barge was sourced from yards in Ghent and Wolvertem, with mobilization involving a fleet of 33 trucks, taking a week. The assembly, a complex orchestration of SMBs, SPMTs, winches, and pumps, spanned two weeks. The team displayed remarkable innovation, surmounting challenges like the absence of a proper quayside and ensuring successful coupling and installation.

Weighing in at 290T, with dimensions of 3.2m in height, 35.5m in length, and 4.9m in width, the Chevêtre P1 presented a formidable challenge. The tight six-hour timeframe, dictated by the canal closure, added an element of urgency to the project.

Transportation and loadout, facilitated by SPMTs, followed by installation using the barge and winches, presented significant hurdles. The crane, stationed at the job site for three weeks, navigated through logistical challenges, including negotiating high-voltage electricity cables. A dedicated team of seven personnel, comprising supervisors and operators, ensured smooth operations throughout. While weather conditions cooperated, the team remained vigilant, monitoring water velocity to adhere to safety standards. Their expertise and precision played a pivotal role in the seamless completion of the lift.

This triumph not only underscores Sarens’ commitment and highlights their adaptability in the face of logistical challenges. The successful Chevêtre P1 installation stands as a testament to precision engineering in the maritime and project freight sector.
