Seaway7 Secures Contract for Baltica 2 Wind Farm Substation Installation Offshore Poland

Subsea7 has announced that Seaway7, a subsidiary of the Subsea7 Group, has been awarded a significant contract for the transportation and installation of substations for the Baltica 2 wind farm offshore Poland. The contract has been awarded by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted.

Seaway7’s responsibilities encompass the transport and installation of four substations. The offshore operations are slated for 2026 and will leverage the company’s heavy lift and heavy transportation vessels.

Baltica 2, a joint venture between PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted, is set to be a substantial addition to Poland’s renewable energy infrastructure. With a capacity of approximately 1.5 GW, the wind farm will be situated in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea, approximately 40 kilometers from the nearest shore point.

Maria Eidesvik, the Vice President for Europe and the US at Seaway7, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, stating, “This is our second contract award in the emerging Polish market, and we are pleased to be taking a role in developing offshore wind in this key location. With this project, we also look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Ørsted on our sixth offshore wind project together.”

The contract is contingent upon the financial close of the project, anticipated in 2024.

Seaway7’s involvement underscores the growing momentum of offshore wind projects, particularly in regions like Poland, which are increasingly turning to renewable energy sources to meet sustainability targets. The company’s expertise in transportation and installation services positions it as a key player in supporting the expansion of offshore wind infrastructure.

The Baltica 2 project represents a significant step forward in Poland’s renewable energy transition, contributing to the country’s efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and embrace cleaner, more sustainable power generation methods. By partnering with established entities like PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted, Seaway7 demonstrates its commitment to driving progress in the renewable energy sector.

As the global demand for renewable energy continues to rise, collaborations between industry leaders are crucial for accelerating the development and deployment of clean energy solutions. The Baltica 2 project serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts aimed at advancing offshore wind technology and infrastructure on a significant scale.

Seaway7’s successful bid for the Baltica 2 contract underscores its position as a trusted partner in the offshore energy sector, with a track record of delivering innovative solutions for complex projects. With the project set to commence in 2026, anticipation is building for the role that Seaway7 will play in furthering Poland’s renewable energy ambitions.
