Shortsea Index Update

The latest results of the Toepfer Transport European Shortsea Index are out.

Toepfer says that “both indices are again moving upwards on the back of a shortage of tonnage, port congestion and global supply chain disruptions that continue to spread out to all dry cargo shipping segments and European short sea trades.

The strong need for ships, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean region, has led to a significant rise of coaster freight rates that prompt owners to even include long ballast voyages to meet demand at loading areas that still pay off well and generate outstanding profits on average.”
