The Port of Barcelona opens the doors of India to Catalan companies

The trip will take place between October 16 and 18 to facilitate the entry into India of import and export companies and the logistics sector, promote new business opportunities and strengthen institutional relations and commercial ties.

Between October 16 and 18, the Port of Barcelona will celebrate a business mission in India that will take place in Bombay, the country’s largest city and commercial and cultural capital. The purpose of this trip is to facilitate entry into this market for import and export companies, as well as companies in the logistics sector, foster new business opportunities and strengthen institutional relations with the Indian authorities.

In addition to facilitating bilateral meetings between companies, during the business mission, thematic seminars will be held focused on the customs, innovation and training fields, which will be attended by relevant figures in the matter from the country of destination. The trip also includes a visit to the Port of Bombay, one of the most important in the country, with which the Port of Barcelona maintains a remarkable commercial relationship that has been increasing in recent years, reaching an exchange of 41,000 tons. of merchandise in 2022.

The Port of Barcelona and the Comunitat Portuària have extensive experience in organizing this type of commercial and institutional trips. In fact, this will be the 25th mission organized by the Catalan enclave, many of which have been to Asia: Thailand (2022), Korea (2021), Japan (2019) or Vietnam (2018) are some examples of missions previously held.

The mission includes a visit to the port of Bombay, with which the Port of Barcelona exchanged a total of 41,000 tons in 2022.

This year, the choice by the Comunitat Portuària de Barcelona of India as the destination for the business mission responds to compelling reasons: it is the fifth largest economy in the world and holds the rotating presidency of the G-20; A few weeks ago it became the most populous country in the world, with more than 1,428 million inhabitants, surpassing China, and it is of great geostrategic importance, with many of the major international maritime routes that pass through its ports; multinational corporations of the relevance of Apple have begun to transfer part of their production to India, which suggests that it will become one of the great manufacturing poles in the world in a few years; and some forecasts suggest that, in 2029, it will become the third largest economy on the planet.

To all these considerations we must add that India is a country with a very young population, a circumstance that, together with rapid economic growth, will contribute to increased consumption and the development of innovation.

India is a very interesting destination and a very opportune moment to increase interest in our products and increase trade relations in our country.

Logistics is key to guaranteeing international trade flows and ensuring people’s daily lives. For this reason, it is essential to establish relationships between the origins and destinations of the supply chains, guaranteeing transparency and agility. Mutual knowledge makes it possible to face the different disruptions that may arise in an uncertain global scenario in a more agile and safe way. And there is no doubt that actions such as these missions contribute to deepening this knowledge.
