Two New Directors Bring Fresh Perspective to Prince Rupert Port Authority Board

The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) has disclosed changes to its Board of Directors, marking a significant shift in leadership. The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport for the Government of Canada, has officially appointed Hilary Cassady, while the City of Prince Rupert and District of Port Edward have confirmed the appointment of Lee Brain.

Hilary Cassady’s Background

Cassady, brings a wealth of corporate experience to her new role. With a background encompassing executive positions at Danone in Asia and Europe, as well as roles at Bentall Kennedy and QuadReal Property Group in Canada, Cassady’s expertise is expected to be invaluable. Holding a Chartered Professional Accountant designation and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at Western University, along with an ICD.D designation from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, she is well-prepared for her responsibilities. Moreover, her previous involvement with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, where she chaired the Human Resource committee, underscores her capability. Cassady’s term commenced on March 25th, 2024.

Lee Brain’s Profile

As a Municipal Appointee selected by the City of Prince Rupert and District of Port Edward, Lee Brain brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the boardroom. With prior service as Mayor of the City of Prince Rupert for two consecutive terms, Brain has a deep understanding of local dynamics. Additionally, his background as a facilitator, mediator, and community engagement specialist adds a valuable dimension to his role. Brain’s

educational credentials include completion of the Undergraduate Semester in Dialogue Facilitation & Mediation program and a Certificate in Innovative Leadership from Simon Fraser University. His term officially begins on May 1st, 2024.

Welcoming the New Appointees

Shaun Stevenson, President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority, expressed his congratulations and warm welcome to Cassady and Brain, emphasizing their local roots and diverse skill sets. He highlighted their importance in advancing the port’s growth plan, aimed at bolstering its position as an economic powerhouse for the community, region, and the entire nation.

Acknowledging Outgoing Board Member

The announcement also bid farewell to outgoing Board member John Farrell, who served as Chair of the Board’s Human Resources and Compensation Committee. Farrell, appointed by the City of Prince Rupert and District of Port Edward in 2015, contributed significantly during a period of unprecedented growth at the Port of Prince Rupert. Stevenson conveyed appreciation for Farrell’s dedicated service.

Board Composition and Appointment Process

The PRPA’s Board of Directors comprises seven members, with appointments from municipal, provincial, and federal levels of government. Board members serve terms of up to three years, with a maximum tenure of three terms.
