Wallenius Wilhelmsen Declares Options for Four Additional Shaper Class Vessels

Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a global leader in logistics solutions, has announced the declaration of options for the construction of four additional next-generation Shaper Class pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessels.

The innovative 9,300 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) methanol dual-fuel vessels are designed with the flexibility to utilize alternative fuel sources, such as methanol, upon delivery. Notably, these vessels are also future-proof, being ammonia-ready and capable of conversion as soon as ammonia becomes available in a safe and secure manner. This strategic move aligns with Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions across its end-to-end services by 2027.

Xavier Leroi, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of Shipping Services, highlighted the collaborative effort with customers in shaping the industry’s future. Leroi stated, “Together with our customers, we are committed to further shaping our industry and accelerating towards net zero. These new vessels are a vital part of that journey.”

This recent commitment brings the total count of Shaper Class vessels currently on order with Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) to eight, and Wallenius Wilhelmsen maintains additional options for future expansion.

The first batch of Shaper Class vessels, already in the pipeline, is anticipated to be delivered in the second half of 2026. With the declaration of options for four more vessels, the extended fleet is scheduled for delivery between May and November 2027.
