Allelys, one of the leading transport and heavy lift companies, showcased their expertise by employing three Modulift-designed and manufactured spreader beams. These beams were instrumental in lifting a massive 176-ton steam turbine generator on the East coast of England.
Shahid Islam, Project Manager at Allelys, emphasized the critical role of specialized equipment in this endeavor. He stated, “Modulift spreader beams were used in a 1-over-2 configuration to lift the steam turbine generator safely from port to vessel with a LG1550 mobile crane. The generator measured 14m long, 4.8m wide and 4.5m high, so specialised transportation and lifting equipment was a must.”
The steam turbine generator, weighing 176 tonnes, serves a vital function in power plants, converting thermal energy from steam into mechanical energy to generate electricity. Transporting such massive machinery required meticulous planning and execution. A specialist trailer, configured with 16 axles, was utilized to transport the generator from Peterborough to the Port of Sutton Bridge. Upon arrival at the port, the generator was carefully lifted onto a vessel destined for Singapore.
Safety remained the top priority throughout the operation. Islam praised the team for executing the lift successfully within a tight timeframe, underscoring the importance of safety in such projects. The spreader beam configuration included a MOD® 250 at 5m on the top, with MOD® 110 and 110H spreader beams underneath.
Sarah Spivey, Managing Director at Modulift, highlighted the advantages of their products, stating, “The MOD® spreader beams are lightweight, easily assembled, and can be re-used for different lifts. We can always rely on our products being safe and reliable as they are DNV Type Approved and ready to use on-site.”
Modulift enjoys global recognition as a market leader in below-the-hook solutions, with the MOD® spreader beam serving as a cornerstone of their product range. This versatile equipment seamlessly adapts into various configurations, including the shackle-free Trunnion, and CMOD® & TriMOD spreader frames. With capacities ranging from 6t to 2000t and spans from 0.4m to 36m, the MOD® offers unmatched versatility.
Spivey further emphasized the sustainability aspect of their products, stating, “Because MOD® spreader beams are reusable, they are the obvious choice for transportation companies such as Allelys. Combining them into a 1-over-2 configuration allows for multiple lifting points using just one crane. We are pleased to see Modulift’s equipment facilitated the safe lift of this steam turbine engine.”
The successful collaboration between Allelys and Modulift underscores the importance of innovative solutions in the maritime, breakbulk, project freight, cargo, and logistics sectors. As industries continue to tackle complex challenges, partnerships like these pave the way for efficient and safe transportation of critical cargo worldwide.
