Maersk air freight services started this week with a chartered airplane to move cargoes for a leading tyre manufacturer from Thailand to Japan.
This cements Maersk’s expansion to air freight by combining Damco’s Air services with Maersk’s logistics and services products as of early October.
Rupesh Jain, Managing Director of Maersk Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore commented:
“I’m extremely proud of the Maersk team who came together in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore to mount air solution for one of our key clients needing urgent and tailor-made solutions to meet its promise to their client. The team worked around the clock with the client as well as our supplier partner to ensure an effective and cost-efficient solution.“
Maersk is laying off 2,000 employees as a result of their large-scale reorganisation that began in September, marking the end of Damco and their subsidiary Safmarine as an independent brand.
