Yesterday, Norwegian search and rescue crews responded to a heavylift yacht transport vessel that was listing 60 nautical miles west of Ålesund, Norway after its cargo reportedly shifted in the hold.
The ship, MV Eemslift Hendrika belonging to Starclass Yacht Transport, was built in 2015 and is managed by Amasus Shipping B.V. registered in the Netherlands. The ship had departed Bremerhaven, Germany recently with a destination of Kolvereid, Norway.
The vessel issued a distress signal on Monday morning when it was approximately 60 nautical miles west of Alesund when developed a 15-degree list after its cargo shifted in stormy weather.
Norway’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center reported overnight that the ship had lost power late on Monday night and was drifting in a southerly direction at between two and three knots. The vessel’s list was said to have increased to between 45 and 50 degrees.
SAR crews initially evacuated all 12 crew members, leaving 4 remaining on board.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration has reportedly sent the coastguard ship Sortland out to monitor the vessel and is expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon. Salvage tugs have also reportedly been dispatched to the ship.
