Hong Kong, November 22, 2023 – In a significant leadership transition, Mr. Angad Banga of the Caravel Group has assumed the role of Chairman for both the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) and the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA). This follows the conclusion of Mr. Wellington Koo’s successful two-year term as the previous HKSOA Chairman.

Mr.Angad Banga’s ascendancy to the chairmanship of both esteemed associations marks a strategic move, underscoring his reputation for expertise and effective leadership. Simultaneously taking over the reins at the ASA, Mr. Banga aims to steer the organization to unprecedented heights in the maritime industry.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the transformative period ahead, Mr. Banga stated, “I am honored to lead ASA during this pivotal time in the maritime sector. Challenges abound, but so do opportunities. Together, with the collective strength of our members, we will navigate toward sustainable growth, technological advancement, and enhanced collaboration within the Asian and global shipping community.”

Mr. Banga’s term as Chairman of ASA will conclude on the day of ASA’s next Annual General Meeting scheduled for May 28, 2024, in Hong Kong. The outgoing Chairman, Mr. Wellington Koo, received appreciation from ASA for his invaluable contributions and leadership during his tenure.

The Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) is a voluntary organization of the shipowner associations of Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners’ Associations comprising shipping associations of ASEAN countries. The aims of the ASA are to promote the interests of Asian shipowners. Between annual ASA meetings, the ongoing work is carried out by five Standing Committees: The Seafarers Committee (SC), the Ship Insurance and Liability Committee (SILC), the Safe Navigation and Environment Committee (SNEC), the Shipping Policy Committee (SPC), and the Ship Recycling Committee (SRC). It has been estimated that ASA shipowners and managers control and operate around 50% of the world’s cargo carrying fleet.
