Hong Kong Air Cargo Launches Intercontinental E-commerce Route to London Stansted

Hong Kong Air Cargo has initiated a significant move in the air cargo industry with the launch of a new intercontinental e-commerce route connecting Hong Kong International Airport to London Stansted Airport. The inaugural flight, RH364, took off on February 4, utilizing an Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft for this strategic route.

This development is aligned with Hong Kong Air Cargo’s forward-thinking plans to tap into the escalating demand for online shopping and facilitate cross-border trade between China and Europe. The airline aims to bolster economic cooperation among Hong Kong, China, and Europe, leveraging Hong Kong’s pivotal role as a global hub for air cargo logistics and a primary gateway for goods in and out of the mainland.

Captain Clifford Hung, President and Chief Operations Officer of Hong Kong Air Cargo, expressed enthusiasm about the new e-commerce route, calling it a “key milestone for our international expansion plan 2024.” He emphasized how the route will provide customers with enhanced choices and flexibility for their air cargo logistics needs, ultimately generating more value and opportunities for stakeholders and partners.

Fleet and Network Overview

Established in 2017, Hong Kong Air Cargo has swiftly evolved into an emerging cargo carrier with a fleet comprising six all-cargo aircraft. The fleet includes five A330-200Fs and one wet-leased A330-300P2F. The airline has strategically positioned itself with a network covering key regions such as Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Notable destinations in its repertoire include Almaty, Bangkok, Chennai, Delhi, Dubai, Hanoi, Istanbul, Manila, Milan, Osaka, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, and now, London.

In a move signaling its expansion into the European market, Hong Kong Air Cargo initiated a flight to Italy in October, specifically targeting e-commerce volumes.

Strategic Importance of the New Route

The decision to launch the e-commerce route to London Stansted is underscored by its strategic importance. By delving into the online shopping and cross-border trade realms between China and Europe, Hong Kong Air Cargo aims to capitalize on the burgeoning market. London Stansted, being one of the largest cargo airports in the UK, provides easy access to London and other major European cities, enhancing convenience for cargo shippers.

The route not only serves the commercial interests of the airline but also fosters economic cooperation between Hong Kong, China, and Europe. Hong Kong’s position as a global air cargo logistics hub makes it an ideal facilitator for goods entering and exiting mainland China.

Looking Forward

As Hong Kong Air Cargo celebrates this milestone, the airline asserts its commitment to further expanding its network. The goal is to offer an increasingly diverse array of air cargo logistics services, building an air bridge that facilitates economic and trade exchanges between China and other nations.
