Dachser Enhances European Food Logistics Network with Acquisition of Brummer

Dachser, a prominent player in the European logistics arena, has recently made significant strides by acquiring Brummer Logistik GmbH in Germany and Brummer Logistic Solutions GmbH & Co KG in Austria. The acquisition targets the entire operational spectrum of the Brummer Group, consolidating Dachser’s position in the transport and storage of temperature-controlled food across Europe.

The Brummer Group, a family-owned enterprise renowned for its expertise in food logistics, boasts a substantial revenue of approximately EUR 128 million in 2023. By incorporating Brummer into its network, Dachser aims to fortify its foothold in Central Europe’s food logistics landscape. The acquisition is pending approval from regulatory authorities in Germany and Austria, ensuring compliance with competition regulations.

Established in 1977 in Neuburg am Inn, Bavaria, Brummer Logistik GmbH operates a 40,000 m2 facility specializing in refrigerated and frozen food storage. Complementing this, Brummer Logistic Solutions GmbH & Co KG, founded in 2021, possesses 45,000 m2 of storage space in St. Marienkirchen, Austria. Strategically located near the border, these facilities optimize transport capacity utilization and enhance efficiency in transit times, catering to the burgeoning demands of cross-border logistics.

Brummer’s core competency lies in cross-border transport, warehousing, and contract logistics services for food, encompassing a comprehensive temperature range, including frozen foods below −18 degrees Celsius. Leveraging its membership in the European Food Network since 2013, Brummer has fostered a sterling reputation as a quality leader, offering unparalleled network coverage for groupage transports across 34 European countries.

The acquisition holds promising growth prospects for Brummer, as emphasized by Hans Brummer and Simone Brummer-Leebmann, former managing directors and owners. Their decision to join forces with Dachser signifies an evolution of their longstanding partnership, promising enhanced cross-border food logistics services and contract solutions for customers, bolstering market competitiveness and ensuring stability for employees.

Dachser’s CEO, Burkhard Eling, underscores the strategic significance of the acquisition, noting Brummer’s esteemed reputation and the synergies it brings to Dachser’s food logistics network. This acquisition, coupled with recent strategic ventures in the Netherlands and northern Europe, solidifies Dachser’s position as a frontrunner in European food logistics.

The integration of Brummer into Dachser’s network heralds expanded distribution capacity, particularly in the German-Austrian food market. With prime locations conducive to load consolidation and optimized driving times, Brummer’s facilities offer a strategic advantage for Dachser’s operations. Post-acquisition, Max Reih will continue to lead Brummer’s operational business, ensuring continuity and fostering growth under Dachser’s stewardship.

Dachser’s COO Road Logistics, Alexander Tonn, lauds Brummer’s commitment to reliability and quality, echoing the shared values and vision between the two entities. He highlights the invaluable contribution of Brummer’s workforce, emphasizing their expertise and dedication as pivotal assets driving future growth within the region.
