Damen Shipyards Inks Deal with Fast Lines Belgium for Two Cutting-Edge Combi Freighters

In a strategic move towards sustainability, Damen Shipyards has secured a significant contract with Belgium-based shipping company, Fast Lines Belgium. The agreement entails the delivery of two state-of-the-art Damen Combi Freighters 3850 (CF 3850), marking Fast Lines Belgium’s inaugural acquisition from Damen’s esteemed fleet. The selection of the CF 3850 was underpinned by its remarkable performance, distinguishing it as the cleanest and most economically efficient vessel in its class.

Prior to finalizing their order with Damen, Fast Lines Belgium’s transportation architects conducted an exhaustive evaluation of options to achieve minimal emissions without compromising economic viability. This meticulous process encompassed an exploration of alternative bio-fuels and the latest advancements in design and efficiency. Alongside the innovative hull design and a highly efficient main engine, these vessels will be outfitted with Damen’s cutting-edge Triton Remote monitoring system. This system provides real-time data on fuel consumption and carbon emissions to both onshore teams and the vessel’s crew.

For Fast Lines Belgium, the CF 3850 emerged as the optimal solution for small and medium-sized shipowners navigating the critical juncture of energy transition. Not only does the CF 3850 offer a cost-effective alternative, but it also boasts the lowest Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) in the short sea cargo vessel market.

Catrien Scheers, the Managing Director of Fast Lines Belgium, expressed confidence in this strategic move, stating, “These will be our first new-build vessels and we are confident that the Damen CF 3850 vessels will fit like a glove in the Fast Lines Belgium’s business. Not only are they economical and efficient, our customers will also be able to see for themselves just how low their fuel consumption and therefore their emissions are. This will give us a valuable commercial advantage.”

Luc Joos, Sales Manager Belgium at Damen Shipyards, echoed the sentiment, adding, “We are delighted to welcome Fast Lines Belgium into the Damen family. They reviewed all the options available to them in detail before opting for the CF 3850. We are confident that their new vessels will deliver the performance that they and their customers seek.”
