deugro Successfully Executes Complex Heavy Lift for FPSO Project in China

deugro, a global logistics and freight-forwarding company, has accomplished the seamless transportation of a colossal 392-metric-ton CO2 removal system for a major FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) project in China. The successful delivery took place from Rizhao to the COSCO Shipyard Qidong, showcasing deugro’s expertise in handling intricate heavy lift cargo movements within the maritime and project cargo sector.

A Challenging Journey

The journey commenced in Rizhao, China, covering a domestic inland road stretch of 10 kilometers and a two-day barge journey to reach the COSCO Shipyard Qidong. The complexity of the operation required a meticulous approach to ensure the cargo’s safety and integrity throughout the transportation process.

Innovative Transport Solutions

To overcome the logistical challenges posed by the massive cargo, deugro utilized state-of-the-art Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) consisting of 36-axle lines. These advanced transporters played a crucial role in the pre-carriage of the CO2 removal system, deftly maneuvering through a series of challenging obstacles. The journey involved navigating six turns, lifting traffic lights, and even removing gates at the toll station, demanding precise planning and flawless execution.

Safety Takes Center Stage

Prior to the operation, the deugro execution team conducted thorough route surveys and crafted comprehensive method statements to eliminate uncertainties. The commitment to safety was further underscored by the presence of a marine warranty surveyor throughout the operation, ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards and effectively mitigating any potential risks.

Roman Lorenzen, Branch Manager, deugro, Malaysia, emphasized the pivotal role of collaboration between deugro’s Malaysia and China offices. “Our teams worked in close coordination, conducting extensive route surveys and crafting comprehensive method statements. We left nothing to chance, ensuring that every aspect of this intricate operation was well thought out and accounted for,” he stated.

Weathering the Challenges

Qu Peng, Head of Area North China, deugro, highlighted the team’s resilience in confronting challenging weather conditions. The execution team navigated dynamic tidal windows during the cargo roll-on operation, optimizing actions for favorable time slots. Adverse windy weather conditions added an extra layer of complexity, prompting the implementation of supplementary safety measures and meticulous checks on lashing and securing elements to fortify the cargo.

Qu Peng also acknowledged the special contribution of Gauss Yan, who closely monitored the entire process, showcasing deugro’s unwavering commitment to project success.

This successful heavy lift operation underscores deugro’s capability to tackle complex logistical challenges in the maritime and project cargo sector, solidifying its position as a reliable partner in the energy industry.
