In a remarkable feat of logistics, Felbermayr successfully orchestrated the intricate transportation of four disc dryers, each weighing a substantial 82 tonnes, from Norre Aaby in Denmark to Berlin-Schönefeld, Germany. The operation unfolded with precision, showcasing the expertise of Felbermayr in handling complex heavy transports.
The journey, spanning across borders, presented challenges that demanded strategic solutions. The 42-meter long special transport faced hurdles due to road conditions and tight curves, preventing a direct delivery to the storage area at the intended destination—the sewage treatment plant in Berlin-Schönefeld.
To overcome this obstacle, Felbermayr employed a meticulous approach. The disc dryers were individually transferred to a 10-axle Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) using two 200-ton hydraulic gantries at the sewage treatment plant, covering a 2-kilometer section of the journey. The SPMT, accompanied by escort vehicles, police assistance, and specialized vehicles for trimming tree branches, navigated the challenging route seamlessly.
Upon reaching the sewage treatment plant’s storage area, the disc dryers were placed on sturdy blocks, strategically supported by load distribution mats and cross beams. This method ensured a secure and stable positioning of the heavy cargo, mitigating any risks associated with the final placement.
