DP World Boosts London Gateway Operations with Automated Stacking Cranes

DP World marked a significant milestone with the arrival of four Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) at London Gateway. The installation of these cranes, supplied by Finnish manufacturer Konecranes, underscores DP World’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and productivity in maritime operations.

The newly acquired ASCs are poised to revolutionize container handling at London Gateway, streamlining operations and ensuring a successful experience for customers. To maximize their potential, special software is currently in development, aiming to integrate the new ASCs seamlessly with the existing crane fleet. This integration is designed not only to elevate productivity but also to contribute to the overall optimization of the port’s logistics operations.

One of the key features of these ASCs is their role in serving the upcoming £350 million all-electric fourth berth. This infrastructure, a global first of its kind, is set to open its doors next year. The addition of these ASCs will play a pivotal role in enhancing the overall capacity of the logistics hub by a third, solidifying London Gateway’s position as a crucial node in the global supply chain.

BigLift Shipping, the company responsible for safely delivering the initial eight ASCs, expressed pride in their contribution to this project. As they gear up to deliver the next batch of 10 ASCs in early 2024, it is evident that collaborative efforts are underway to fortify London Gateway’s capabilities in handling maritime, breakbulk, and project cargo with utmost precision and efficiency.

The integration of these ASCs not only signifies a technological leap forward for London Gateway but also reinforces DP World’s dedication to staying at the forefront of innovation in the maritime and logistics industry. As the project progresses, stakeholders eagerly anticipate the positive impact these advancements will have on the UK’s trade landscape.
